This evening we watched a movie called Sukiyaki Western Django. It was made of all things not suck. This movie defies proper explanation, so let me attempt to describe the situation you will be assailed with in the first 5 minutes of film:
The movie is set in "the old west," in "Nevada" (sometimes Nevata) to be more precise, and features a cast of mostly Japanese characters who spend the entire film attempting to speak English. Now, notice that I said "mostly" Japanese characters. This movie happens to have a cameo by no other than Quentin Tarantino who slips between issuing his lines in stunningly clear english, and a Japanese-flavored parody of English. Later in the film he makes a random anime-otaku comment that defies logic. So, we have a cast of Japanese cowboys speaking with a varying degree of english precision, and an english speaking American who is affecting a bad accent (maybe to fit in?).
Most of you are thinking that this formula must certainly be EPIC FAIL, but you think wrong. This movie is WIN. I don't quite understand why this film is so good, and maybe if I wasn't so tired I could better analyze things, but I found this film deeply compelling.
That is all for tonight. My brain is tired.
